Nobody likes you Joe…and other random thoughts on the health-care battle

Sen. Joe Leiberman of Connecticut
“If the public option plan is in there, as a matter of conscience, I will not allow this bill to come to a final vote,” Lieberman said yesterday on FOX.
No seriously, nobody likes you. You are like the kid with all the newest, coolest toys that nobody really wants to hang with, but they do so they can check out all your cool shit.
Deep down, you know this, which is why you are such an asshole about who you let play with you. You make sure everyone knows you have power, you like it and you make it all about you.
And it makes them all hate you a little more and want to hang with you a little less.
Politically, my point is this: No single Senator, member of Congress or elected official should have, let alone revel in and threaten to use, enough power to single-handedly keep a vote so vital to the American people from coming to pass. What level of narcissistic asshole must you be to decide that you should hold up the resolution of health care reform in spite of a majority of the American public believing we need it and we need it now.
You are not the daddy, Joe Lieberman; and you do not know best.
You were not elected to run our lives for us, you were elected to serve and represent our wants and desires to the U.S. Senate. 61% of the country wants health care reform this year.* I’m pretty sure some of that 61% lives in Connecticut.
Abortion
So, the denial of abortion as a covered service in the public option health care choice really bugs me. REALLY bugs me. It essentially makes a service, which is a legal and legitimate health care cost, available only to those wealthy enough to afford it. It’s not right.
That said, in a discussion I had this weekend, I came to the unofficial conclusion that there aren’t many, if any, insurance companies out there actually covering elective abortion services. Probably, in fairness, this isn’t as shitty as I feel like it is.
It would be far worse to have no public option at all.
Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao of Louisiana
Dude.
You must have balls of steel. As the lone Republican to vote for the health care bill and in spite of probably not being in line with all things I support, if I were a citizen of Louisiana, I’d vote for you.
Why?
Because regardless of what we may disagree on, you have demonstrated a willingness to vote for what you believe to be right. There is no question that you were voting your conscious. You did so in the face of vehement threats of retribution for anyone who votes against the party to which you belong. You most certainly will face opposition from your own party when you next run for reelection and odds are you won’t get much in the way of campaign donations from insurance companies.
In spite of all that, you voted for what was right for your constituents, not your party leadership. That is a mark of a true statesman in this day and age. I would not only vote for you, I’d campaign for you.

GREAT post. I’m all torn up about this health care malarky (the government is so corrupt on both sides) but I don’t honestly see what the ‘danger’ of a public option is (especially not since my health care costs went up 40% in a year, for NO REASON.)
Most representatives are in the pocket of one corporation or another. Joe Lieberman just revealed what a sell out he is with these comments.
