I will be spending the weekend without computers or technology as I head out to a house party hosted by one of my oldest friends. She has a huge house in the country with a huge yard (great for bonfires), huge kitchen, huge fireplace and now huge movie theater in the basement apparently.

She is hosting a gathering of women who have known each other for 2 decades (or more if I’m wanting to really examine just how damn old we are). This is something we have not done in years. In fact, the last time we did it was when I was separated from my husband in 2002.

And once again, the occasion for which we are all gathering to misbehave is a divorce. It’s tough to find the time and resources to gather like we used to in college, for weekends of reckless drunkenness and binging on junk food. We’ve all scattered across the country, have kids and spouses and yanno…responsibilities *gags* that keep us from gathering for just a “good time.”

But when its a time of need, we are there, without hesitation. Through break-ups, an abortion, marriage, child-birth, infertility, divorce and parents diagnosed with cancer.

When my husband and I split up, they all came. We drank, we ate, we laughed and most importantly, we didn’t talk about the divorce. Not that weekend. It was priceless to me. I certainly hope A, the one getting divorced this time, will find the same comfort from spending time with us.

Anyway, so that’s where I will be this weekend. No blogging, no twitter, I’m even turning off the Blackberry. *gasp*
